Literature Text

Treading the land of Lore, rogues, mages, and warriors lived side by side along with monsters, creatures, crawlers, spitters, swimmers, and the like. In the seas, serpents of unimaginable sizes would send appointed ships on a coarse to nowhere. Lonely travelers are known to be ambushed by sneevils and bandits. Air travel is carried out by griffons and, sometimes, legendary dragons. Most folks fear the mighty dragons that terrorize the skies. Others brave the winged beasts to claim them as trophies and protect their hometowns. However, there is one story that rumors to be true: The story of the DragonLord; the story of some heroic figure who will be able to tame dragons and save the world with a dragon companion from an ultimate evil doer who dominates dragons and thirsts for power and destruction. Most panicked the end of days, some braved the forces of evil, others simply couldn't allow themselves to get so involved in magical politics. A mage by the name of Elizabeth Coalminister was one of these people.
She focussed on a makeshift target she pinned on a tree trunk, channeling all of her energy into her finger tips, and forcing a spark of light and accumulated electricity into a ball flying at the target. It slightly fries the paper of the drawn on target, not really doing any damage at all. Elizabeth huffs angrily, stomping her foot. A rabbit scurries away, frightening a few birds away from the trees and into the sky. Feeling guilty having scared the critters, the girl only blames her magic teachers from all her schools before. "Stupid instructors! You never tought me anything! You can't even do your jobs right by teaching me!" She cooled down. The young mage began to realize that it's not anyone's fault. It simply was that Elizabeth was young and inexperienced, and she knew she had to understand this. After all, she was only a fresh graduate from the school of magic. Graduates usually ranged in ages anywhere from sixteen to twenty five, and Elizabeth was fortunate enough to graduate at age twenty one. The mage looked towards the blue sky of clouds, then back at the trees behind her. Hugging a tree, then sliding downwards to sit down next to her black backpack, Elizabeth thought to herself, "What kind of person am I gonna be? Will my magic lead me to becoming the great mage I want to be? Are my efforts worth something?"
The question lingered around in her head, repeating: "What kind of person am I gonna be?"
She invisioned herself on wild adventures, teaching mages like her who once upon a time didn't know a single spell, maybe having a chance at romance and having a few kids into her thirties. She began to imagine the monsters she would battle, the size of the class she would teach, the look of her future lover, how many kids she would have and what they would look like as well... Her mind soon wondered towards the possible futures of not just her, but her best friend from magic school and her sister who was younger by three years. All three of them were mages and shared a passion for casting spells. It had been a while that Elizabeth had seen her sister or her friend. They were both still trying to graduate, thought her friend was a month older than her. Elizabeth had that habit of overachieving, much like her father. She loved to sit down in class, knock out the paperwork and written tests, and always have time to herself because she always finished the assignments early and this thus allowed Elizabeth to mess around with her magic even moreso. She indeed was a quick learner and loved to show that off. On the flip side, Elizabeth knew that flaunting her talents would not only make her seem completely arrogent, but it wouldn't earn her any friends. For the most part, Elizabeth's abilities away and at school were beyond average, and this was her key through life: Exceeding. However, there was always that pesky spell or two that she never truely mastered. Elizabeth was hard on herself with all things she never could grasp fully and this included all things: Cooking, painting (which was a personal passion of her's), atheletisism, speaking to strangers, etcetera...
She quickly emptied her busy head, tucking her feet underneath her rump and leaning against a tree. Elizabeth reached into her backpack and grabbed a notebook full of sketch and drawings of creatures and characters. As she began to scribble away, a pleasant thought came to mind. All good things came to those who waited, and Elizabeth confirmed underneath that tree, sitting in the shade, she would wait for destiny to creep up on her like a prey awaiting it's predator to seize it. But she wouldn't have to wait for very long...

The sun began to set. Elizabeth remained against the tree, hood over her face. She was startled from her sleep when the wind began to pick up dramatically. She shook her head, allowed the wind to brush her hood back behind her head, revealing her long, blonde hair, and stood up, her wooden staff in hand. Thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her, Elizabeth spotted an enormous red dragon approaching the side of the cliff! She dropped to the grass and covered her eyes from the forceful wind. The dragon came just to the edge of the cliff and seemed to ignore Elizabeth completely as it lowered its head and allowed a lady dressed in white to step off its back with a little red moglin. Moglins were small, plushy creatures resembling bear-bat things that were in good speaking terms with humans. The moglin scurried off the dragon's back and greeted Elizabeth who still sat terrorized on the grass. "Hiyas!" The moglin squeeked. He did an about face and said the lady in white, "The path is clear, Priestess!"
With a black box in her hands, the woman followed her little, red friend and said to the mage petrified with astontishment, "Please pardon us friend, we are just passing through."
The woman and the moglin walked pass Elizabeth and the dragon took off to the skies again. Feeling compelled to follow after the strangers, she did so. After following them a good distance into the forest, the woman's voice broke out, "Oh my. Who put this carpet in the middle of the forest?"
The moglin panicked, "Oh noes! That is not a carpet Priestess... it is a Gorillaphant!"
Elizabeth peaked through the florage to see what was going on. A ferocious roar broke out among the forest!
"I will protect you Priestess!" The moglin shouted!
Suddenly the little, red creature came flying towards Elizabeth and landed right at her torso, knocking her backwards onto the grass! The moglin was stunned with pain, for the attacking monster had punted him all the way to Elizabeth. "Oh my heavens, are you okay?!" She asked the moglin, but when he didnt respond, she said to him, "Come on, little fella! Let's save her!" The moglin gained balance on his tiny paws again and took his little staff in hand, standing semi-heroic! The two made off towards the monster attacking the woman in white! The woman appeared surprised seeing her friend and the mage ready to attack together!
The mage tried to channel her spells against the giant, grey, furry, gorilla while the moglin whacked the monster repeatedly with his stick-staff. She failed again and again to fuse her energy at the creature, but when she did, it knocked the monster on it's hind-end and seemed to have taken a lot out of it! Elizabeth was amazed and very impressed with herself, but the gorillaphant was quickly back in it's feet and it attacked the mage with its massive tusks! Elizabeth flew about seven feet and landed on her stomach, feeling the wind getting knocked out of her! The mage then took her staff and charged her energy once more. Fueled by anger, Elizabeth flung the ball of magic at the monster and sent him flying fast and far away, smashing his back against a tree! The creature fell to the grass and remained motionless for a good amount of time, allowing Elizabeth to assume she had defeated the gorilla. This was her first, real battle and she had won.
"Thank you for saving me brave mage." Spoke the voice of the lady in the white robe. "May I know the name of my hero?"
"But Priestess!" The moglin spoke out. "You said her name was Elizabeth and she is the one who is destined to-" But then he stopped himself.
Elizabeth was majorly confused. "What?"
The Priestess sighed. "Twilly... Alas, we are out of time. Good Mage. I must ask an important favor of thee. Would you please let Captain Rolith know that we're taking the shortcut? He's just ahead in the Oaklore Keep. I am certain we will cross paths again."
The lady and her little friend turned around together and began to walk away into the forest. The moglin said, "Especially since she is going to take that Black Box and--"
She sighed again, "Twilly..!"
The mage was troubled. Elizabeth knew only thing to do now, and that was to deliver the message to Rolith. She looked to the Keep in the break in the flora and began to travel towards it, contemplating all that had just happened.
